Italian designer Mauro Giamboi and Dutch Van Oossanen Naval Architects have teamed up to create a new series of Azzurra explorers capable of long-range cruises, including high latitudes
The Azzurra 36, Azzurra 40 and Azzurra 48 that are 36, 40 and 48 m long respectively have been created on the basis of the Fast Displacement Hull Form developed by Van Oossanen. The lines of this type of hull allow steel yachts to reach higher speeds and reduce fuel consumption.

The Azzurra’s design highlight is the asymmetric configuration of the main deck, allowing one to extend the saloon and increase the interior living space to the maximum. All models can also be powered both by conventional diesel and hybrid diesel-electric systems.

The largest of the models, the 48-metre Azzurra 48, has an internal volume of just under 500 GT and is an ice class yacht, which allows her to navigate under the most extreme conditions. At a cruising speed of 12 knots her provisional range is 4000 nautical miles. Another feature distinguishing her from the smaller models is the Raised Pilothouse. The owner’s suite is located on the upper deck forward, and there is a spa centre below deck.

The 40-metre Azzurra 40’s internal volume is 370 GT. Her main saloon is 60 sq.m, and the master cabin with a fold-down balcony is almost the same size (55 sq.m). There is an option of a pool on the spacious aft deck. The Azzurra 40 can accommodate 12 to 16 guests across her transformable cabins and a crew of nine. Her provisional cruising speed is 11 knots, and her top speed is 16 knots.

The youngest Azzura 36 was designed as a “slightly more compact alternative” to larger Azzurra models, although she has a lot of common features with them. Her top speed is 15 knots and she boasts an impressive range of 3200 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 10 knots.

As Mauro Giamboi put it, they have “developed a cohesive family of vessels — offering compact versatility in the 36-meter range, a flagship feel at 40-metres, and polar exploration capacity at 48. It reflects the current market: owners demand custom solutions, proven technology, and timeless style.”
