It looks like the 2024 sailing season is going to be really exhilarating
America’s Cup, which attracts a lot of superyachts and their owners as spectators, starts in Barselona in August. And they are unlikely to miss the chance of taking part in European summer regattas, too. Anyway, the organisers of Superyacht Cup Palma expect a record turnout of 12-15 participants.
One of the most beautiful moments of Superyacht Cup Palma 2024 is the legendary J-class sailing yachts race – both the original ones built in 1930s and their replicas. This year the iconic 39-metre Velsheda (1933) is returning. Among the new J-class yachts that have already confirmed their interest there is Svea (Vitters, 2017) and Rainbow (Holland Jachtbouw, 2012, replica of the original successful defender of the 1934 America's Cup). The newcomer is the 39.4-metre Vijonara from Hoek Design and Pendennis shupyard.
At present 11 yachts have already applied. The competition is going to be fierce, as the 2023 Cup Palma champion, the 24-metre Rose, is on the race circuit again, as well as her runner-up, the Swan 100 Onyx (Nautor Swan).
