The delivery of the new 10К catamaran is scheduled for the nearest future. Compared to the first unit, this boat can boast a full-fledged flybridge and a number of special features
ilodka.com was lucky to attend the sea trials of the new 10K catamaran that the young Samara-based shipyard, Aviator, has launched. Compared to the first unit that we told you about earlier in the article named “Aviator 10К: a catamaran that can fly”, the second hull features a new colour. Now the deep grey glossy hull contrasts beautifully with the snow-white superstructure, making the overall look of the boat more “festive”, but still preserving the 10K’s brutal character.
Despite adding the flybridge, the yard managed to keep the profile of the boat harmonious. For this reason, the helm was made hi-lo, the sofa is low and the radar mast painted the colour of the hull with a white dome now looks almost like a decoration.
“We decided not to make the flybridge version a different model, but to offer flybridge as an option for the existing 10К catamaran model”, comments Alexander Galkin, co-owner of the shipyard.
As the boat was built for the owner who is keen on underwater hunting, the catamaran features a number of changes. The arrangement of the cockpit makes it comfortable in any kind of weather: it is sheltered with a removable tent, there is an output for a heater, a shower, a sofa standing with its back to the saloon and the railings for fixing the screens that will project all the information form the bottom scanners. All this system is connected to the helm station, so that the owner could send the captain any necessary data without leaving the cockpit.
The changes in the saloon are not so obvious. The level of the lounging area with a table and a sofa on the portside has been raised to allow the guests to admire unobstructed panoramic views. The galley is now equipped with an extractor hood, a microwave oven, a two-burner gas stove and a cleaning system that allows one to use the water right from freshwater reservoirs.
There is also an extra cabin now, the entrance to which is located under the sofa, where there used to be vast stowage space. The size of the cabin is no less than those you can find on board compact sailboats, and it has an openable porthole, so it will be just fine for accommodating children, a mother-in-law or another unexpected guest.
The main cabin forward now also has more storage recesses and a compact wardrobe for outwear.
The highlight of the flybridge where you can get via a staircase right from the saloon is the hi-lo helm. The boat can be handled both from a sitting or a standing position to make it possible for the captain to see the divers in the water clearly. Next to the helm there is a corner sofa for the guest to keep the captain company. One can also put a sofa or a chaise-longue aft, or leave the space free for storing water toys and gear.
The second hull has become almost 600 kg heavier, but features more powerful twin 250 hp outboard Honda BF 250 D engines. During the sea trials at half load of fuel tanks and three passengers on board, the second 10K hull managed to exceed the speed of 65 km/h despite the waves, current and wind.
The fuel capacity has been increased: now there is an option of two tanks of 500 litres each.
This year the shipyard is going to launch two more 10K units, and by the beginning of the next season the “aviators” from Samara are planning to deliver five more hulls and unveil the first unit of the 12.3-metre 12K catamaran at one of the boat shows.
A full review of the second Aviator 10K unit on ilodka.com is coming shortly.
