Project Ananda is extremely significant for Heesen Yachts, as the superyacht will not only be the largest steel yacht it has ever built, but the inaugural build under a new strategic direction for it
According to the shipyard, the 72.3-metre Project Ananda is “a significant step forward in Heesen’s engineering capabilities, pushing the boundaries of speculation-built yachts while reinforcing the shipyard’s focus on owner and guest wellbeing, exceptional build quality, and unparalleled seakeeping”.
In addition, Heesen Yachts is planning to start the construction on Project Ananda on spec and find an owner at a later stage. This approach allows for shorter delivery time and does not limit the client in any customisation opportunities: the shipyard has applied this approach with 50-metre yachts and is now set to scale it for a larger segment.
The name of Project Ananda can be translated as “inner joy” from Sanskrit, which implies the feeling the guests shouls experience on board. Collaboration with Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design resulted in clean, laconic exterior lines and harmonious interior spaces. Although Heesen Yachts’ signature design language has been retained, the first renderings of Project Ananda bear strong resemblance to another Dutch yard’s works – Feadship.
The priority for the layout of the five-deck superyacht were privacy and fluid movement. The guests can enter the vessel through a midships shell door, opening onto a docking platform. Right behind it, there is a central hall with a glass elevator allowing the guests to navigate the superyacht’s levels fast and easily.
There is a dedicated deck for the owner available in two configurations: forward-facing or aft-focused. Another feature that “removes traditional hierarchies” is the second master suite on the bridge deck, offering flexibility for charter operations or multi-generational family use.
One of Project Ananda’s stand-out features is the travertine-clad swimming pool area on the main deck aft. It is connected directly to a Teppanyaki-style bar within the main lounge, creating an indoor-outdoor living experience for the guests.
The spa and beach club area take up about 100 sq.m and feature a sauna, a steam room, an ice bath, a snow shower, a hyperbaric chamber, a massage and medical treatment room and a bar, delivering a uniquely integrated wellbeing experience.
The superyacht will boast an ultra-fuel-efficient steel hull and a hybrid propulsion system incorporating twin MTU engines and PTI/PTO gearboxes. Based on the preliminary data, she will have a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots.
At present, the naval architecture and tank testing phases have been completed. The keel laying is scheduled for November 2026, while launch and delivery are anticipated in 2030.
