Abeking & Rasmussen lays keel of 79.9-metre superyacht

German Abeking & Rasmussen, which has not made a lot of news recently, has announced it has laid the keel of the 79.9-metre superyacht currently known as Abeking 6516

It is interesting to note that the keel laying ceremony, which was attended by the client’s, shipbuilder’s and numerous subcontractors’ representatives, was not held at the yard, but at the facility of Polish G&K SteelCon company, specializing in production and assembly of aluminum and steel structures for shipbuilding

Although the German shipyard has not commented on this officially, it seems logical to assume that construction work on the new superyacht will start in Poland, after which the unit will be moved to Germany for outfitting. Taking into account the current difficult situation for German business in general and for shipbuilders in particular, this solution might allow one to cut costs significantly.

The information about the new vessel that is currently available is quite scarce and vague. It is known that the yacht’s design will be entrusted to a well-known British design studio. The exterior – in line with the latest A&R projects – is most likely to be simple and minimalist, and the interiors are expected to be comfortable and modern. There will be a garage for a tender and water toys, as well as expansive exterior and interior lounging areas.

A&R shipyard has experience building 80-metre superyachts like the Excellence or the RoMEA, so the yard is likely to apply the solutions or the platform that it has already tried and tested.

The latest superyacht was launched by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2023, and it is the yard’s current flagship, the 118.2-metre Liva O.
