The model was named after the iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircraft due to its modern, elegant design, “military style” naval architecture and ability to cross the ocean fast despite the displacement hull
In collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects the yard managed to use a fast displacement hull of an offshore patrol vessel for the Spitfire superyacht. This is one of the reasons the new vessel builf of composites will be capable of reaching a top speed of 22 knots and feature a range of 2,200 nautical miles with standard fuel tanks, and up to 3,500 nautical miles with extra tanks.
“This platform is constructed based on three fundamental principles: speed, lightweight construction, and iconic design proportions,” said ARES YACHTS Chairman Kerim Kalafatoğlu. “Combining a hull with offshore pedigree and the specifications of a superyacht platform opens up thrilling possibilities from both design and technical standpoints. We have usedan advanced hull form for both performance and superyacht levels of sea keeping”.
British Bannenberg & Rowell is responsible for both interior and exterior design. The studio has designed a sleek, low-profile superstructure, while expansive bands of dark glass contrast beautifully with the military grey hull.
Special attention has been given to the beach club area aft, which can be extended with the help of fold-down wings and a transformer platform, which provides easy access to the water and watercraft storage. By the way, the beach club area which is accessible through a door in the aft platform, has two different layout options: one can choose between a lounge and a cinema space with expansive seating or a well-equipped gym. When the tenders are on the water, this area can offer even more options – from a party venue to an open-air yoga studio.
Simple and informal lifestyle is the key to understanding this yacht, whose social spaces can be easily united or separated with the help of sliding glass walls and doors. For instance, the dining room and the lounge on the main deck feature floor-to-ceiling glass sides, which can easily retract to form a gigantic indoor-outdoor area.
It’s the same with the upper deck wardroom, where the interior lounge can be united with an exterior lounge with a bar, grill and sun loungers.
The owner’s suite is located on the main deck forward, and four more guest cabins are below deck. The bed in the master suite is freestanding and may be moved – which is really rare even for superyachts. For instance, one can move it closer to the panoramic windows to admire the sweeping sightlines covering some 270 degrees. There is also direct access to a private cockpit forward, featuring a jacuzzi and an outdoor cinema.
According to the information from the shipyard, the Spitfire will be equipped with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion. Thanks to a large battery pack two 290 kW electric motors will propel the yacht for an hour under electric power alone. Or she can spend a night in silence in a hotel mode.
Construction on the first composite hull is scheduled to begin in 2025. The yard claims it has extensive expertise building in high quality fibreglass, which will ensure the SPITFIRE's high speed and low displacement.
