YYachts gets ready for redesigned Y7 model’s world premiere
The presentation of the new YYachts Y7 marks the beginning of the 10th-anniversary celebrations of the shipyard founded by German yachtsman Michael Schmidt in the city of Greifswald on the Baltic Sea
The original version of the Y7 model was created in collaboration with American designer Bill Tripp considered one of the gurus of sailboat design. The latest redesign is the result of teaming up with Judel/Vrolijk & co, whose projects are famous as a harmonious blend of aero- and hydrodynamics and contemporary aesthetics.
The Y7 features a new hull shape: its lightweight carbon sandwich construction allows for a displacement of 31 tonnes, while the enlarged beam (6.10 m now and 5.75 m in the previous iteration) ensures stability and manoeuvrability particularly in moderate winds.
The mast has been moved further aft to enhance the sail efficiency, allowing for a sail plan of 305 square metres upwind now. The absence of a backstay allows for a square-top mainsail, which adds sail area at its top without increasing the height of the mast and therefore improving the yacht’s performance.
The signature minimalist deck and vertical windows of the wheelhouse remained unchanged, while the cockpit has undergone some changes. The asymmetric path between the sofas ensures unobstructed way from the saloon to the helm consoles. The location of the winches and helm consoles is so convenient that the yacht can be operated with a small crew or even alone.
The new Y7 offers four interior design concepts and up to nine layout options. Owners can choose an open or an aft galley, add a VIP guest cabin, an office studio or a playroom. The master suite has become significantly wider and now features a more spacious bathroom, a desk and options for a walk-in dressing room. The saloon is home to a lounge with a sofa, a dining area for eight and a full-size chart table with a chart-plotter and control panel.
The new Y7's interior has been developed by the YYachts in-house design team led by Francesca Modica in collaboration with Danish architect Studio David Thulstrup, known for the “understated luxury” style, combining Scandinavian simplicity and contemporary trends.
There is a cozy "Scandinavian hygge" vibe on board the Y7, with clean lines and functionality combined with high-quality materials. The finishings feature smoked and bleached oak, teak, American walnut, and multi-textured textiles in natural shades, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere on board.
The new Y7 will join the YYachts line of carbon cruising superyachts, including the best-selling Y8 and the flagship Y9.
