The ambitious project by Italian Sanlorenzo features numerous bold architectural solutions. Take the living tree rising through two decks or the underwater Aquarium built into the hull!
Work on the Virtuosity started four years ago. The 73-metre vessel’s exterior was designed by Studio Zuccon International Project, while the interior architecture and design are the result of Studio Paolo Ferrari’s work with the active participation of the owner.
Sanlorenzo underscores the fact that although this yacht was built on the same platform as her predecessor, she is not her copy: the Virtuosity combines a well-tried technical platform with a radically customised space concept. Her designers wanted “to rethink space from within, allowing nature, structure and human experience to converge in unprecedented ways”.
Thus, at the heart of the main deck there is a Ficus Nitida, rising through an oval void. The tree is an architectural element here: it was selected before the first structural block was assembled, and the entire yacht sort of grew around it. Based on precise botanical criteria and expected long term growth, the designers created a coherent and controlled micro ecosystem, where, as the yard puts it, “nature and naval architecture engage in a genuine, responsible dialogue. Capable of physically and visually linking the decks, the tree transforms the perception of space into a structured contemplative experience”. By the way, in addition to the gigantic ficus, there is a 42 sq.m winter garden veranda on the upper deck.
In fact, all the elements of the Virtuosity’s exterior and interior are in a constant meaningful dialogue. It also applies to the design of the stern section normally called “beach club” on other vessels, but Ocean Resort at Sanlorenzo. It is not just a beach area, but a transformable system of 230 sq.m with fold-down side platforms that make the 13-metre beam even wider. The sunlight penetrates the pool’s glass bottom to reach the lounge below, and the adjoining wellness centre includes a hammam, a sauna, massage and cryotherapy rooms.
The key highlight of the experience is the approximately 35 sq.m Aquarium, designed as a partially submerged glass section of the hull. This magical window below the waterline provides direct visual contact with the sea, making the underwater landscapes part of the interior.
The guest accommodation is far from standard, too. There are two guest cabins, a VIP suit and the first 80 sq.m master suite forward. There are two additional guest cabins on the bridge deck next to the wheelhouse and the captain’s cabin.
Moreover, one of the decks is dedicated entirely to the owner, and it is home to 140 sq.m of interior and exterior spaces with another master suite and a private cinema. Another remarkable feature here is the reflective pool with a multifunctional platform that can serve as a sunbathing area or a wet lounge.
With her diesel-electric propulsion system, the Virtuosity boasts a top speed of up to 17 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots. The superyacht’s range is about 5,000 nautical miles.
What matters most about this yacht is not her performance characteristics, but her incredible design, which is "a coherent sequence of experiences where nature, light, water and structure operate as one language”.
